A recent investigation by the NGO Disclose has revealed that 429 women across France have reported sexual violence perpetrated by police officers and gendarmes, with 215 identified perpetrators, including a third who are repeat offenders. The Ministry of the Interior has been criticized for allowing these abuses to occur with impunity. Separately, during the Fête de la Musique celebrations, over 145 women reported being victims of unsolicited injections, with more than 300 individuals placed in custody. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin has called for prosecutors to systematically open investigations upon receipt of complaints related to these injection incidents. He also expressed support for making crimes against minors imprescriptible and advocated for a penal reform to increase the use of community service sentences and short-term penalties. Additionally, longstanding cases of physical, psychological, and sexual violence against students in Bétharram have come to light, with victims' associations demanding state action. Public figures have highlighted ongoing failures in the police and justice systems to adequately protect women and hold offenders accountable.
