A 10-year-old American girl died on Tuesday evening after collapsing in the main courtyard of the Château de Versailles, according to local police and the Versailles prosecutor’s office. The child, who was visiting the historic site with her parents, lost consciousness at about 18:15. Security staff and firefighters attempted resuscitation, joined shortly afterwards by a mobile emergency and resuscitation team, but she was pronounced dead at 19:15. Prosecutors have opened an inquiry for “recherche des causes de la mort” and ordered an autopsy to determine the precise cause. Initial accounts indicate the girl had been treated for autism-spectrum disorders but had no known heart condition. She reportedly complained of the heat shortly before the incident; France has been experiencing high temperatures, though authorities have not yet linked the death directly to the weather.
