Andy Carroll, the 36-year-old former England international and striker for Liverpool and Newcastle United, has officially left French club Girondins de Bordeaux after one season. During his tenure at Bordeaux, Carroll scored 11 goals in 21 appearances. The club confirmed his departure was motivated by a desire to return home and be closer to his children. Following his exit from Bordeaux, Carroll has made a surprising move back to English football by signing a three-year contract with Dagenham & Redbridge, a club competing in the sixth tier of English football, the National League South. The club recently came under new Qatari ownership. In addition to joining the squad, Carroll has also become a minority shareholder in Dagenham & Redbridge. His move to the lower tiers of English football marks a notable step after spending the previous two seasons playing in France with Amiens and Bordeaux.
