Australian sprinter Kaden Groves attacked from a breakaway in the rain-soaked 184-kilometre run from Nantua to Pontarlier and claimed Stage 20 of the Tour de France, finishing 54 seconds ahead of Dutchman Frank Van den Broek. The 26-year-old Alpecin-Deceuninck rider secured his first Tour stage and became the 114th cyclist to win stages in all three Grand Tours. His victory was aided by a late crash involving Romain Grégoire 21.5 kilometres from the line, yet the solo move still required a 16-kilometre time-trial effort to stay clear of the remnants of the break. Race leader Tadej Pogacar rolled in safely with the peloton almost seven minutes behind the stage winner and will carry a 4 minute 24 second advantage over Jonas Vingegaard into Sunday’s Champs-Élysées finale. Barring incident, the 25-year-old Slovenian is set to seal a fourth Tour de France title and has already locked up the mountains classification after dominating the Pyrenean summit finish at Hautacam and winning the uphill time trial to Peyragudes earlier in the week. Groves’ success delivered Alpecin-Deceuninck a third stage triumph of the 2025 edition, following earlier wins by Mathieu Van der Poel and Jasper Philipsen. The stage left the overall top positions unchanged, while Frenchman Jordan Jegat climbed into the top ten after joining the day’s escape. The Tour concludes on Sunday with the traditional procession into Paris.
