Tadej Pogacar reclaimed the Tour de France yellow jersey with a late burst up the Mûr-de-Bretagne to win the 197-kilometre seventh stage from Saint-Malo in 4 hours 05 minutes 39 seconds. The Slovenian world champion launched his attack with 150 metres remaining and held off Denmark’s Jonas Vingegaard, while Britain’s Oscar Onley finished third two seconds adrift. Pogacar’s victory, his second of this year’s race, restores the overall lead he lost the previous day to Mathieu van der Poel. He now heads the general classification by 54 seconds over Belgium’s Remco Evenepoel, with France’s Kevin Vauquelin at 1 minute 11 seconds and Vingegaard a further six seconds back. Pogacar also moved into the green points jersey; UAE-Team Emirates team-mate Tim Wellens retains the polka-dot climbers’ jersey. The stage was marred by a crash six kilometres from the line that brought down about ten riders. Pogacar’s key lieutenant João Almeida finished more than ten minutes behind nursing hand and rib injuries, while Bahrain-Victorious leader Jack Haig was forced to abandon. France’s Louis Barré crossed the line bloodied but hopes to continue. Friday’s result followed Ben Healy’s solo triumph on stage 6 and Remco Evenepoel’s time-trial win in Caen on stage 5. The peloton heads to Laval on Saturday for a 171-kilometre flat stage expected to favour the sprinters before the race turns south toward the Pyrenees next week.

Tadej Pogacar wins at Mur de Bretagne, and yet again, makes the extraordinary look ordinary. It is a shame his victory felt so underwhelming. Some repercussions may arise from Almeida's crash — plus Costiou's big day out and a tribute to Sam Abt. https://t.co/KZA58lLtoo
