France’s Ligue de Football Professionnel has overhauled its disciplinary code, raising the yellow-card threshold for an automatic ban from three cautions in a 10-match window to five cautions, irrespective of the number of games played. The change, adopted by the LFP board on 3 June and effective from the 2025-26 campaign, will apply across Ligue 1, Ligue 2, the Coupe de France and the Trophée des Champions. All tallies will continue to reset at the end of each season. The league said the reform aligns French football with other major European competitions, including the Premier League, and is intended to simplify tracking for clubs, players and fans.
