French investigators have detained two men in connection with the discovery of four bodies in the River Seine at Choisy-le-Roi, south-east of Paris. A 24-year-old Algerian national with no fixed address was picked up on Wednesday and placed in 96-hour custody for “meurtres en concours,” or multiple murders. Police arrested a second man on Thursday; authorities said he belongs to the first suspect’s circle but did not disclose any further details or possible links to the victims. The case began on 13 August when a passer-by spotted a corpse near the Choisy bridge. A police search uncovered three more male bodies in the same stretch of water. Prosecutors in Créteil said one victim had been strangled and another bore other violent injuries, while the remaining two were too decomposed to yield immediate conclusions. One of the dead men has been identified as a local resident in his 40s; the others are still unknown. Forensic examinations and witness interviews are continuing as detectives seek to establish whether the deaths are connected and to determine the role of the two men now in custody. The prosecutor’s office has opened separate homicide investigations and has not ruled out extending the detentions as evidence is gathered.
