A French prosecutor on Wednesday asked the tribunal correctionnel de Créteil to sentence rapper Koba LaD to seven years in prison and keep him in custody for causing the death of stylist William Dogbey in a high-speed car crash last year. The prosecution also sought the cancellation of the 25-year-old artist’s driver’s licence and a lifetime ban on reapplying for it. The case stems from a 10 September 2024 collision on the A86 at Créteil, where Koba LaD’s Audi RS4 left the roadway and struck a stationary truck outside a service station. An expert estimated the car was still travelling 103 km/h when it first hit a guardrail; tests later found 1.1 ng/ml of THC in the driver’s blood. Dogbey, 30, died at the scene and an assistant seated in the rear was slightly injured. Prosecutors argue that excessive speed and drug use aggravate the involuntary-manslaughter charge, which carries a potential 20-year sentence. Defence lawyers contend the cannabis traces reflect consumption several days earlier and say the rapper swerved to avoid another vehicle. The court is expected to deliberate after closing arguments later this week. Koba LaD, whose real name is Marcel Junior Loutarila, already has several convictions, including a 2020 driving offence in Marseille and a January 2025 sentence for assault. His touring plans remain on hold pending the outcome of the latest proceedings, which have drawn heavy media and public attention.
