France Football on 7 August published the 30-man shortlist for the 2025 Ballon d’Or, the game’s most prestigious individual honour. Paris Saint-Germain leads all clubs with nine nominees, equalling Real Madrid’s record set in 2018 and underscoring the French champion’s dominance after its UEFA Champions League triumph. Ligue 1 contributes nine players in total, followed by eight from the Premier League and seven from La Liga; Serie A and the Bundesliga supply three each. Among the headline candidates are PSG winger Ousmane Dembélé and Barcelona teenager Lamine Yamal, while only four South Americans make the cut. Notably, neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo appears on the list for a second consecutive year, breaking a run that began in 2003. The organisers also released shortlists for the Yachine Trophy for best goalkeeper and the Kopa Trophy for best under-21 footballer, both of which now include women’s categories. FC Barcelona features among the five nominees for Best Club in both men’s and women’s football, and Brazil’s 39-year-old icon Marta returns to the women’s Ballon d’Or field. Winners of all 13 awards will be announced at the 69th Ballon d’Or gala on 22 September at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, where 100 journalists will vote on the men’s prizes and 50 on the women’s.
Ballon d'Or, Trophée Yachine, meilleur club, meilleur entraîneur : Le PSG peut-il tout remporter?
