Marc Marquez produced another fault-free ride at the Sachsenring on Sunday, steering his factory Ducati from pole position to the flag to win the German Grand Prix and register his 69th premier-class victory on the occasion of his 200th MotoGP start. The 31-year-old Spaniard crossed the line more than six seconds clear in a race that wiped out eight of the 18 starters when repeated falls at Turn 1 removed early podium contenders Fabio Di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi. Francesco “Pecco” Bagnaia fought through from 10th on the grid to take third, giving Ducati a clean sweep of the rostrum. Second place went to Marquez’s younger brother Alex, who was competing just 13 days after undergoing surgery on a fractured left hand sustained in a crash at the Dutch Grand Prix. The Gresini rider held off Bagnaia in the closing laps despite still wearing protection on the recently repaired hand. The elder Marquez’s fourth consecutive grand-prix victory – and his ninth at the Sachsenring – stretches his championship advantage to 83 points over Alex after 11 of 22 rounds. The series resumes on 20 July with the Czech Grand Prix in Brno.
