Shane van Gisbergen dominated NASCAR’s Grant Park 165 on Chicago’s 2.2-mile street course Sunday, securing his second Cup Series victory of the season and third overall. The New Zealander, who also won Saturday’s Xfinity race from pole, becomes the most successful foreign-born driver in Cup history as well as only the second competitor to sweep both national-series events on the same weekend at the venue. The Trackhouse Racing driver was leading comfortably when Cody Ware’s brake failure sent the No. 51 Ford head-on into the Turn 6 tire barrier on the final lap. NASCAR waited until van Gisbergen had taken the white flag before calling the caution, freezing the field and ending the race under yellow. Ty Gibbs matched his career-best finish in second, while Tyler Reddick surged from 18th to third in the closing 12 laps. Denny Hamlin recovered from a rear-of-field start caused by an overnight engine change to take fourth, with Kyle Busch rounding out the top five. Ryan Blaney earlier collected Stage 2 honors. Attrition began almost immediately when Carson Hocevar hit the wall three laps into the 75-lap event, triggering a pile-up that eliminated Hocevar, Austin Dillon, Brad Keselowski and Will Brown. Before the green flag, nine cars—including entries for Kyle Larson, Chase Elliott and Bubba Wallace—were ordered to the rear for unapproved adjustments, while Hamlin’s engine swap added a tenth. NASCAR’s post-race inspection found no irregularities, confirming van Gisbergen’s victory and handing him the 12-race in-season challenge points that accompany it. Reddick remains the highest-placed winless driver, 142 points above the playoff cut-line, with seven regular-season events still to run.
