Amid rising global crises and declining humanitarian funding, Germany has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting reforms in the United Nations humanitarian system to improve coordination and efficiency. German officials, including the Foreign Ministry and the UN Relief Chief, emphasized the need for better use of aid resources as one of Germany’s roles as a major donor. Recent examples of effective aid supported by Germany include flexible funding for the UNHCR in Ukraine, enabling timely delivery of cash, shelter, and protection, and partnerships with UNICEF and UNCERF in Colombia, where over 23,000 vulnerable children received meals from locally sourced products. Germany also advocates for the United Nations to serve as the primary coordinator for humanitarian aid in Gaza. The approach underscores the importance of early and anticipatory humanitarian assistance to enhance responsiveness and save lives, as demonstrated in Bangladesh through collaboration with UNCERF.
