A regional passenger train operated by Deutsche Bahn derailed near the town of Riedlingen in Baden-Württemberg at about 18:10 local time on Sunday, leaving at least four people dead and injuring several others, according to police and local media. Roughly 100 passengers were on board the service, which was travelling from Sigmaringen to Ulm when several carriages left the tracks and rolled over in a forested area. Emergency services deployed a large contingent of rescuers and at least six helicopters to reach the site, where some passengers were initially reported trapped inside overturned cars. The wooded location complicated access for first responders, who continued searching the wreckage into the evening. Stuttgart police said an investigation has been opened to determine the cause of the accident. Weather reports indicate storms had passed through the region earlier in the day, but authorities have not yet linked the conditions to the derailment. Deutsche Bahn stated it is cooperating fully with investigators and assisting affected passengers and families.
