A passenger tempo traveller veered off the Bharath–Bagla road near Bhart village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district on Tuesday morning and plunged into a deep gorge, local officials said. The latest police estimate puts the death toll at five, with 17 other occupants injured. Rescue teams and police personnel pulled survivors from the wreckage and rushed them to Government Medical College Doda for treatment. Union Minister of State Jitendra Singh said he had spoken with Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh to coordinate relief efforts, while local authorities ordered an investigation into the cause of the crash on the mountainous stretch.
