Tommy Fleetwood secured his long-awaited first PGA Tour victory on 24 August, winning the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta and, with it, the season-long FedEx Cup title and its $10 million bonus. The 34-year-old Englishman closed with a two-under-par 68 to finish at 18-under 262. Fleetwood’s three-stroke triumph over Americans Patrick Cantlay and Russell Henley was built on back-to-back birdies at the 12th and 13th holes after his advantage had briefly shrunk to one. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler joined Corey Conners and Cameron Young in a share of fourth at 14-under. The victory ended a run of 164 PGA Tour starts and 44 top-tens without a win for Fleetwood, who said, “I’m proud of what I’ve done before… this is, hopefully, one win, the first of many to come.” U.S. Ryder Cup captain Keegan Bradley, who fired a third-round 63, finished tied seventh at 13-under as he weighs whether to make himself a playing captain for next month’s matches at Bethpage Black. President Donald Trump announced he plans to attend the Ryder Cup’s opening day and publicly urged Bradley to compete as a player-captain.
