Marking the anniversary from the opposite camp, former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis hailed the referendum as a historic ‘No’ to what he calls ‘financial blackmail’, maintaining that the popular mandate was later betrayed. The contrasting messages underscore how the events of 2015 still influence domestic politics even as Greece, following years of recovery, has regained investment-grade status and posted its lowest unemployment rate in 17 years.
