DermaRite Industries has initiated a voluntary nationwide recall of four soap and skin-care lines—DermaKleen, KleenFoam, DermaSarra and PeriGiene—after company tests detected Burkholderia cepacia in multiple production lots. The products were shipped throughout the United States and Puerto Rico and are widely used in hospitals, nursing homes and other care facilities. Burkholderia cepacia poses minimal danger to healthy users but can cause serious bloodstream infections and life-threatening sepsis in people with weakened immune systems, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The agency said the contamination could enter the body through minor skin lesions or invasive care, heightening risks for patients already under medical treatment. DermaRite said it has received no reports of illness linked to the affected lots, which carry expiration dates ranging from July 2025 to January 2027. Distributors and healthcare providers have been instructed to examine inventories and destroy the products, while consumers can return purchases for a full refund. Questions can be directed to the company’s recall hotline at 973-569-9000.
