Hartford Bakery Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of six production lots of its Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf after discovering the presence of undeclared hazelnuts, according to a notice posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. The recall, announced on 10 July, affects roughly 883 loaves distributed to Walmart, Kroger and other retailers in 12 states including Alabama, Georgia, Illinois and Ohio. The product’s packaging stated it "May Contain Tree Nuts" but did not list hazelnuts among the ingredients, creating a risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions for consumers with nut allergies. No illnesses have been reported, though the company said one customer experienced digestive discomfort and several others complained after spotting visible nuts in the bread. Consumers are advised to return the affected 12-ounce loaves — identifiable by UPC 24126018152, an expiration date of 13 July 2025 and lot codes T10 174010206 through T10 174020406 — to the point of purchase for a full refund. Questions can be directed to Hartford Bakery’s customer service line at 1-812-425-4642.
