Walmart is recalling roughly 850,000 Ozark Trail 64-ounce stainless-steel insulated water bottles after the screw-cap lids were found to “forcefully eject” and strike users, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said in a notice issued 10 July. The agency has logged three injury reports, including two consumers who suffered permanent vision loss when hit in the eye. The recall covers bottles bearing model number 83-662 on their packaging. The silver vessels with a black one-piece screw-cap lid have been sold at Walmart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com since 2017 for about $15. The product is manufactured in China and imported by California-based Olympia Tools International Inc. Consumers are advised to stop using the bottles immediately and return them to any Walmart location or contact the retailer at 800-925-6278 for a full refund. The CPSC warned that the risk arises when food, carbonated or perishable beverages remain in the bottle over time, creating pressure that can propel the lid with significant force.
