U.S. President Donald Trump telephoned Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Monday to press him over Hungary’s veto of the European Union’s plan to open membership negotiations with Ukraine, according to people familiar with the matter. The call came shortly after Trump held separate discussions with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and other European leaders, who urged Washington to help break the deadlock in Brussels. Orban has so far blocked the EU from unanimously agreeing to start formal accession talks with Kyiv, a step that requires support from all 27 member states.
