In Tamil Nadu's Tiruppur, a 27-year-old woman named Ridhanya died by suicide reportedly due to dowry-related harassment by her husband Kavinkumar and his family. The couple had married in April 2025, with a dowry that included 100 sovereigns (approximately 800 grams) of gold and a Volvo car valued at Rs 70 lakh. Ridhanya left behind a poignant last message to her parents before consuming sulphas to end her life. Despite the substantial dowry, she faced continuous torture. Following the incident, her husband and his father were arrested. Separately, in Chennai's Ponneri, a 22-year-old woman named Lokeshwari died by suicide just three days after her marriage, also allegedly due to dowry harassment by her husband and in-laws.
