Indian model and former Miss Puducherry San Rachel, 26, died in Puducherry on 14 July after an apparent suicide, according to local police. She had been treated at the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) following an overdose of sleeping pills reportedly taken on 5 July. Investigators said a suicide note was found and that Rachel had been under severe financial pressure and emotional stress. The Urulaiyanpettai Police have registered a case and begun an inquiry into the circumstances leading to her death. Rachel gained prominence by challenging colourism in the fashion industry, winning the Miss Dark Queen Tamil Nadu title in 2019 and the Miss Puducherry crown in 2021. She represented India at modelling events in Europe and had recently married in 2024.
