Delhi Police on Sunday recovered a woman’s body under the Signature Bridge near the Geeta Colony fly-over that matches the description of 19-year-old Sneha Debnath, a mathematics student at Delhi University’s Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College. Debnath had been missing since 7 July after telling family she was heading to Sarai Rohilla railway station; a cab driver later confirmed dropping her at the bridge. A note provided by the family indicated Debnath intended to jump from the bridge, and technical surveillance placed her last location there. Police and National Disaster Response Force teams had searched a seven-kilometre stretch of the Yamuna for six days with no success before Sunday’s discovery. Formal identification is pending, but investigators have informed the family and begun an inquest. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha had earlier contacted Delhi Police, urging swift action after the student’s father sought state assistance. Delhi Police said an FIR was filed 48 hours after Debnath disappeared and that they are examining possible causes, including personal distress cited by friends and recent messages the student sent.
