In June 2025, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recorded nearly 2.3 billion Aadhaar authentication transactions, marking a 7.8% increase compared to the same month last year. The surge reflects the expanding use of Aadhaar in India's digital economy. Notably, face authentication transactions reached a record 158.7 million in June, indicating rapid adoption of AI-driven identity verification technologies. Additionally, over 390 million e-KYC transactions were completed during the month. Despite the widespread use of Aadhaar, a Right to Information (RTI) application revealed that since the program's inception 14 years ago, UIDAI has deactivated only 11.5 million Aadhaar numbers, a small fraction compared to the approximately 117 million deaths recorded in the country during the same period.
