Gopal Khemka, a prominent businessman and BJP leader in Bihar, was shot dead outside his residence in Patna late on July 4, 2025. The attack occurred near Ramgulam Chowk in the Gandhi Maidan police station area around 11:40 pm. The assailants, riding a motorcycle, opened fire on Khemka as he was in his car. Police recovered bullets and shell casings from the scene and are investigating the incident, including reviewing CCTV footage. This killing comes six years after the murder of Khemka's son, Gunjan Khemka, in a similar manner. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to probe the case. On July 8, 2025, one of the accused in the murder case was killed during a police encounter in Patna, while another suspect was arrested. Separately, on July 15, 2025, the body of a missing bank manager, Abhishek Barun, was found in a 30-foot dry well in the Beur area of Patna, with police investigating the circumstances of his death. On July 17, 2025, a prisoner on parole named Chandan Mishra, who had multiple murder cases registered against him and was admitted to Paras Hospital in Patna for treatment, was fatally shot inside the hospital by five armed assailants. The attackers entered the hospital's ICU, shot Mishra multiple times in room number 209, and fled the scene. The incident was captured on CCTV and has raised concerns about law and order in Bihar. Police have launched an investigation into the hospital shooting. Mishra was transferred from Buxar to Bhagalpur jail and was on parole for medical reasons. The shooting has drawn attention to the security lapses in Patna's healthcare facilities and the broader issue of gang violence in the region.
