Brazil has expressed interest in acquiring multiple Indian defense systems, including the Akash air defence system, which was notably used during India's Operation Sindoor against Pakistan. This interest was confirmed by P. Kumaran, Secretary East at India's Ministry of External Affairs (MEA). In addition to the Akash missile system, Brazil is looking at India's coastal surveillance radars, Garuda artillery guns, secure battlefield communication systems, offshore patrol vessels, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) ties for Scorpene submarines. The two countries are also exploring joint defense manufacturing, research, and technology sharing initiatives. The Garuda artillery guns include the Mounted Gun System (MGS), a 155-152 calibre cross-country truck-mounted heavy artillery gun developed indigenously by Indian industries, Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), and premier academic institutions under the leadership of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO). Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Brazil coincides with these defense discussions, signaling a strengthening of bilateral defense cooperation between India and Brazil.
