Punjabi actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh has been at the center of controversy due to his upcoming film "Sardaar Ji 3," which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir alongside him. The casting decision sparked backlash in India amid heightened India-Pakistan tensions following a terror attack in Pahalgam. Indian film bodies, notably the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA), called for a ban on Dosanjh and urged filmmakers to reconsider his involvement in other projects such as "Border 2." FWICE initially demanded Dosanjh's removal from "Border 2," citing the patriotic theme of the film and the ongoing political climate. However, sources later indicated that Dosanjh would not be replaced in "Border 2," and the ban on him was reportedly revoked after intervention by producers including Bhushan Kumar of T-Series. The production house denied rumors of discontinuing collaboration with Dosanjh. "Sardaar Ji 3," completed before the Pahalgam attack and rising political tensions, was not released in India but premiered overseas on June 27, 2025, including in Pakistan, where it became the highest-grossing Indian film on its opening day, earning Rs 3 crore and surpassing the record set by Salman Khan's "Sultan." Dosanjh has maintained that the film was made prior to the escalation of tensions and has remained largely silent amid the controversy, sharing cryptic social media posts and behind-the-scenes videos from "Border 2" to quell rumors of his exit. The row has drawn mixed reactions from the film industry and public figures. Veteran actor Naseeruddin Shah initially voiced support for Dosanjh but later deleted his social media post amid backlash. Singer Mika Singh publicly criticized Dosanjh, demanding an apology and labeling him a "fake singer" for working with a Pakistani actor during sensitive times. Meanwhile, director Imtiaz Ali defended Dosanjh, calling him "son of the soil." Actress Neeru Bajwa, co-star of "Sardaar Ji 3," deleted related social media posts amid the backlash. The controversy highlights ongoing challenges in cross-border cultural collaborations amid political tensions between India and Pakistan.
