The INDIA alliance has nominated former Supreme Court Judge B. Sudershan Reddy as its candidate for the Vice President of India election scheduled for September 9, 2025. Reddy, a distinguished jurist who has served as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court and as a Supreme Court judge, is widely recognized for his constitutional expertise and progressive judgments. The alliance, comprising multiple opposition parties, has framed the contest as an ideological battle against the NDA candidate, C.P. Radhakrishnan. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders emphasized Reddy's clean image, independence from political parties, and commitment to upholding constitutional values. The INDIA alliance MPs are set to formally introduce Reddy at a meeting in the Central Hall of Parliament. Reddy has expressed gratitude for the nomination and stressed that the election is not a personal contest but a democratic process involving all parliamentarians. The candidate has received broad support from opposition parties including DMK, Samajwadi Party, AAP, IUML, and Shiv Sena (UBT). Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy highlighted Reddy's role as chairman of an independent expert committee during the Telangana caste census. The INDIA alliance views this election as a fight to safeguard social justice and democratic institutions amid current political challenges. Reddy arrived in Delhi recently and has been actively engaging with alliance members and leaders ahead of the election.
