India’s Union Cabinet approved four additional semiconductor manufacturing projects with a combined outlay of Rs 45.94 billion under the India Semiconductor Mission. Two of the new fabrication units will be built in Odisha, while Andhra Pradesh and Punjab will each host one plant, Information Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said after the meeting. The Cabinet also cleared other large-scale infrastructure proposals, including Phase 1B of the Lucknow Metro at an estimated cost of Rs 58.01 billion, and the 700-megawatt Tato II hydroelectric project with an investment of Rs 81.46 billion. Vaishnaw said the approvals align with the government’s push for clean energy and urban mass-transit development.
