Trump claims India will 'no longer' import Russian oil, calls it 'good step' #oott https://t.co/rRKrZgbyfg
U.S. President Donald Trump told reporters on 1 August that he had “heard” India would stop buying Russian crude oil, calling the reported move a “good step” but acknowledging he was not certain of its accuracy. Indian government officials and refining-sector sources subsequently told news agency ANI and broadcaster NDTV that no state-owned or private oil company has suspended Russian purchases. They said buying decisions remain guided by price, crude grade, inventory levels and logistics, and that imports from Russia continue unabated. India became one of Moscow’s largest oil customers after Western sanctions rerouted Russian barrels, and the country now relies on imports for roughly 85 % of its crude-oil needs. Trump’s remarks came a day after the White House imposed a 25 % tariff on exports from about 70 countries, including India, a move that could further strain trade ties between Washington and New Delhi.
