Indian government has clarified today that India has NOT stopped buying Russian oil. Anyways, if India (and China) stopped buying oil from Russia, the global price of oil will be like $400 a barrel. Trump has a 🤡 understanding of basic economics. https://t.co/0yPES8fOBA

New Delhi plans to keep importing Russian crude despite U.S. President Donald Trump’s warnings that countries purchasing energy from Moscow could face punitive measures, two senior Indian officials told the New York Times, according to a report published Saturday. Trump last month threatened 100% tariffs and other penalties on nations that continue buying Russian oil unless the Kremlin reaches a major peace deal with Ukraine. On Friday he told reporters he had heard India would halt such purchases, but the Indian officials said no directive had been issued to state-run or private refiners to scale back shipments. Russia has become India’s largest crude supplier, accounting for about 35% of the South Asian nation’s overall imports. Reuters previously reported that some state refiners paused Russian purchases in mid-July as discounts narrowed, a commercial decision the officials said was unrelated to U.S. pressure. The White House and India’s foreign and energy ministries did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
