India’s annual fish output has more than doubled in the past decade, reaching 195 lakh tonnes in fiscal 2024-25, Union Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh said on National Fish Farmers Day in Bhubaneswar on 10 July. Production has risen 104% from the 95.79 lakh tonnes recorded in 2013-14, propelled by the government’s Blue Revolution programme and a cumulative investment of about ₹38,500 crore since 2015. Singh added that inland fisheries and aquaculture have expanded by 140% over the same period. The minister said the sector’s rapid growth is strengthening rural livelihoods and export earnings, and signalled that New Delhi will keep allocating funds to modernise infrastructure and improve value-addition to sustain momentum.
