Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh met farmers, researchers and industry representatives at the ICAR Sugarcane Breeding Institute in Coimbatore on Friday for a stakeholder consultation aimed at boosting India’s cotton production. Chouhan told reporters the government would devise measures to combat crop diseases, improve cultivation practices and address challenges faced by weavers and the broader agro-industrial supply chain. The ministers said inputs gathered at the meeting would feed into a coordinated strategy between the agriculture and textiles ministries to raise yields and strengthen value addition in the cotton sector.
