The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the men's and women's squads for the upcoming 2025 Asia Cup and the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup, both scheduled to start on September 30. The men's Asia Cup squad will be led by Suryakumar Yadav, with Shubman Gill appointed as vice-captain. Notable inclusions are Jasprit Bumrah, making a comeback, and Sanju Samson, while key players like Shreyas Iyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal were omitted despite strong recent performances. The selection committee, chaired by Ajit Agarkar, cited team balance and recent form in their decisions. Abhishek Sharma, currently the ICC's No. 1 T20I batter, and Tilak Varma are among the squad members. Five standby players were named: Prasidh Krishna, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, and Yashasvi Jaiswal. The women's World Cup squad is captained by Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana as vice-captain. Shafali Verma, a prominent batter, was excluded from the squad, with chief selector Neetu David explaining the decision based on fitness and form considerations. The women's World Cup matches originally scheduled in Bengaluru have been relocated to Navi Mumbai, with the possibility of the final being played in Colombo if Pakistan reaches it. The Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports clarified that while bilateral cricket matches between India and Pakistan are suspended due to national policy and security concerns, both countries will participate in multi-nation tournaments like the Asia Cup. Bangladesh has announced a 16-member squad for the Asia Cup, recalling wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan after three years and leaving out Mehidy Hasan Miraz. Hong Kong and China have also confirmed their readiness for the tournament. England announced their women's World Cup squad with Nat Sciver-Brunt as captain, including six changes from their 2022 squad. The Asia Cup serves as a preparatory platform for India's defense of the T20 World Cup title in 2026.
