India’s Home Ministry has cleared the release of Rs 1,066.80 crore from the State Disaster Response Fund to help Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Kerala and Uttarakhand cope with floods and landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains. Assam will receive Rs 375.60 crore, while the remaining funds are allocated among the other five states, according to the ministry. Home Minister Amit Shah said the federal government is also supplying logistical support, including National Disaster Response Force teams, Army units and Air Force assets, to assist rescue and relief operations. Shah added that he had earlier consulted chief ministers of several rain-hit states and assured them of continued central assistance. With the latest tranche, New Delhi has channelled more than Rs 8,000 crore from the SDRF and National Disaster Response Fund to 19 states so far this calendar year, underscoring what Shah called the Modi administration’s commitment to stand "resolutely" with state governments during natural disasters.
