India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah held telephone discussions on Friday with the chief ministers of Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh after torrential rain caused flooding and landslides in several parts of the country. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said Shah sought detailed information on conditions in disaster-prone districts, including the pilgrimage centre of Kedarnath Dham. Shah said the central government has already deployed "adequate" National Disaster Response Force units in the affected states and stands ready to send additional teams if required. The Home Ministry is coordinating relief operations with state authorities to evacuate residents, clear debris and restore essential services as forecasts signal more rainfall over the weekend.
