Heavy rainfall and a cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district have caused extensive damage across multiple assembly constituencies, including Seraj, Nachan, Bagsiad, Sharan, and Thunag. The disaster has resulted in the destruction of numerous houses—estimated between 15 and 30—and infrastructure such as roads and a concrete bridge. Over 30 people are reported missing, with at least 10 bodies recovered so far. The affected areas have suffered from disrupted electricity, water supply, and road access. Rescue and restoration efforts are underway, including the deployment of JCB machinery to clear roads. Key political figures, including Jairam Thakur, the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly and former Chief Minister, BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, and BJP National President and Union Minister JP Nadda, have visited the affected regions to assess the situation and meet with locals. Kangana Ranaut acknowledged her lack of a cabinet post and funds for disaster relief but stated she is working to secure financial assistance. JP Nadda described the situation as a severe tragedy affecting approximately 51 locations with loss of lives and property, assuring that the BJP will work towards recovery and support for the victims. The state government has been urged to expedite restoration and preventive measures to mitigate future disasters.
