India's core sector growth decelerated sharply to 0.7% in May 2025, marking the lowest expansion in nine months, down from 6.9% in May 2024 and 1.0% in April 2025. The slowdown was driven by contractions in half of the eight key sectors, which include coal, crude oil, refinery products, natural gas, fertilizers, cement, steel, and electricity. Concurrently, India's industrial production growth also slowed to a nine-month low of 1.2% in May 2025, declining from 2.7% in April 2025. This drop was attributed to poor performance in manufacturing, mining, and power sectors, compounded by a high base effect from the previous year and unseasonal rains affecting power demand. Meanwhile, in Brazil, industrial production fell by 0.5% in May 2025 compared to April, marking the second consecutive monthly decline, although the 12-month cumulative production grew by 2.8%. Brazil's retail sales also declined by 0.2% in May 2025. In Mexico, light vehicle sales decreased by 5.9% year-over-year in June 2025, continuing a three-month downward trend, with notable declines in brands such as Volvo, Acura, Seat, and Mazda. Despite this, Mexico's automotive production rose by 4.89% year-over-year in June 2025, reaching a record high, and exports increased by 14%, demonstrating resilience amid economic uncertainties and U.S. tariffs.
