In June 2025, Mexico's light vehicle sales declined by 5.9% year-over-year for the third consecutive month, with 116,059 new units sold, according to data from INEGI. This decline reflects ongoing economic uncertainty and the impact of tariffs in the United States, which have particularly affected brands such as Volvo, Acura, Seat, and Mazda. Despite the drop in domestic sales, Mexico's automotive production and exports showed robust growth. Production of light vehicles increased by 4.89% year-over-year to 361,047 units, reaching a historic high for the month. Exports rose by 14% year-over-year, totaling 331,517 units, with approximately 80% of these vehicles shipped to the U.S. market. Industry representatives, including the Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA), highlighted the sector's resilience amid tariff-related challenges. The mixed performance underscores the complex dynamics facing Mexico's automotive industry, balancing strong manufacturing and export growth against weakening domestic sales.
