India's defence manufacturing sector has reached a record production value of ₹1.5 lakh crore (₹150,590 crore) in fiscal year 2025, marking an 18% year-on-year increase and a 90% rise since fiscal year 2020. This growth is attributed to policy reforms and increased private sector participation under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative. The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) Chairman, Dr. Samir V Kamat, highlighted this milestone as a reflection of the strength of India's research, development, and production capabilities in the defence domain. Concurrently, India is advancing its maritime vision with a focus on port modernization under the Sagarmala initiative, aiming to streamline regulatory processes and improve efficiency through digital technologies. Maharashtra is leveraging its strategic coastal location, industrial base, and R&D ecosystem to become a key player in India's defence exports. Additionally, India and the United States are enhancing their partnership in shipbuilding and maritime collaboration, underscoring growing bilateral cooperation in the defence sector.
