India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said in Washington that Operation Sindoor had “conveyed with great clarity” New Delhi’s resolve to act against the perpetrators, supporters, financiers and enablers of terrorism. The cross-border operation was carried out on 7 May against militant infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir after the 22 April attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that left 26 people dead. “If there are future terrorist attacks, we will respond,” he warned. Jaishankar’s remarks align with a 25 April UN Security Council statement and a joint communique issued this week by Quad foreign ministers—US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australia’s Penny Wong and Japan’s Takeshi Iwaya—which condemned the Pahalgam assault and urged all UN members to bring those responsible to justice. Jaishankar said the coordinated diplomatic messaging underlines India’s policy of zero tolerance toward terrorism. During his four-day US visit, the minister also met Rubio separately for a review of trade, technology, defence, energy and mobility cooperation. Jaishankar added that India is monitoring a pending US congressional proposal for steep tariffs on nations buying Russian oil, noting that New Delhi’s energy security interests have been communicated to lawmakers.
