India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal crossed the 2,000-run mark in Test cricket on Friday during the third day of the second Test against England in Birmingham, reaching the milestone with a boundary off Brydon Carse. The 23-year-old reached the figure in his 21st Test, eclipsing Sunil Gavaskar’s previous Indian record of 23 matches, and did so in 40 innings—matching Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag as the joint-fastest Indians by innings. Globally, only Don Bradman (15 Tests), George Headley and Michael Hussey (17 and 20 Tests respectively) have reached 2,000 Test runs in fewer matches, underscoring the pace of Jaiswal’s ascent in red-ball cricket.
