The Lok Sabha Speaker has initiated a new health-focused dietary program for Members of Parliament, introducing a nutrition-packed menu in the Parliament canteen that includes items such as ragi millet idli and grilled fish. This initiative aligns with broader efforts by the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to promote healthy eating habits across various settings. The Ministry has issued advisories recommending the display of informational boards on sugar and oil content at workplaces, including Chandigarh International Airport, to raise awareness about the presence of added fats and sugars in food products. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has also directed schools to install oil content boards to safeguard student health. Dr. Rima Dada, Professor at AIIMS Delhi and media spokesperson, highlighted that these measures build on previous initiatives led by AIIMS to offer healthier food options in institutional hostels. These coordinated efforts reflect a government-wide push to encourage healthier dietary choices among the public and officials alike.
