Police in Maharashtra’s Thane district have launched a manhunt for a 20-year-old man accused of kidnapping a 16-year-old girl from Dombivli and raping her aboard a train bound for Akola on 30 June, according to the Kalyan Government Railway Police (GRP). Investigators said the suspect abandoned the girl at Akola railway station after his parents refused to let the pair enter their home. GRP officers at the station found the teenager, recorded her statement and transferred a zero-FIR to their counterparts in Kalyan. The Kalyan GRP has booked the suspect under sections 64 (rape), 74 (assault to outrage a woman’s dignity) and 137 (kidnapping) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, as well as relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. Efforts to trace and arrest the accused are under way.
