Heavy rains triggered cloudbursts and flash floods in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district starting from late June 2025, causing widespread devastation. Initial reports indicated one death and around a dozen missing, with rainfall measuring 216.8 mm since Monday evening. The situation rapidly worsened, with the death toll rising to 11 and 34 people reported missing by early July. Subsequent assessments revealed that over 85 people have died across Himachal Pradesh due to the ongoing monsoon calamity, including 17 fatalities in Mandi district alone. More than 35 individuals remain missing in Mandi, and numerous residents have been rendered homeless. Drone footage from Thunag Bazar in Mandi highlighted the extensive damage caused by the floods and cloudbursts. Relief efforts include community kitchens established in Thunag to provide food to those affected. The State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) continues to monitor the situation as recovery and rescue operations proceed.
