Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he held an extended telephone conversation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 11 August. The two leaders reviewed bilateral cooperation and the broader diplomatic landscape surrounding Russia’s war in Ukraine. Zelenskiy told Modi that reinforcing sanctions on Russian oil remains critical to constraining Moscow’s revenues, according to the Ukrainian account of the call. India has so far maintained significant purchases of discounted Russian crude while calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Both sides said they plan to follow up with an in-person meeting in September.
