A Microlight Fixed-Wing Quicksilver GT500 training aircraft operated by the Federasi Aero Sport Indonesia (FASI) crashed into a public cemetery in Ciampea, Bogor, West Java, at about 09:20 local time on Sunday. The accident killed former Indonesian Air Force spokesman Air Commodore (Marsma) Fajar Adriyanto, 55, and left his co-pilot, identified only as Roni, in critical condition at Atang Sendjaja Air Force Hospital. The Indonesian Air Force said the two-seat plane, tail number PK-S126, had taken off from Atang Sendjaja Air Base at 09:08 on its second sortie of the day as part of a routine proficiency flight for FASI personnel. The aircraft was declared airworthy before departure and carried a valid flight permit, according to Air Force spokesman Air Commodore I Nyoman Suadnyana. An investigation has been launched to determine why the plane lost contact 11 minutes after take-off and went down; eyewitnesses reported the aircraft banking sharply before impact. Fajar Adriyanto, known by the call sign “Red Wolf,” was a decorated F-16 fighter pilot who headed the Air Force’s public-information office from 2019 to 2020 and most recently served as chief adviser at the Air Force Education and Training Command. The Air Force hailed his decades of service, including his role in intercepting U.S. Navy F/A-18 Hornets over Bawean Island in 2003, and expressed condolences to his family while urging the public to await the findings of the crash investigation.
