On August 25, 2025, a large-scale civil demonstration titled "Revolusi Rakyat Indonesia" took place in front of the Indonesian Parliament building (Gedung DPR/MPR RI) in Senayan, Central Jakarta. The protest was primarily driven by public outrage over the legislators' monthly salary of $6,150, which demonstrators criticized as excessive. Thousands of participants, including many students, gathered carrying posters and flags to express their dissent. The demonstration escalated into clashes between protesters and police, with riot police deploying tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd. Confrontations continued into the evening, notably involving groups of vocational high school students (STM) who resisted orders to disperse, leading to violent encounters under the Pejompongan flyover. Police reported using force to push back demonstrators and arrested 15 individuals during the unrest. Prior to the protest, the main gate's four-meter-high iron fence was smeared with black oil, complicating security efforts. Despite the turmoil outside, parliamentary activities inside the complex proceeded normally. The Indonesian government issued an apology for disruptions to public services caused by the demonstration. Additionally, local officials, including the South Manggarai Village Head and his driver, were reportedly attacked by protestors during the events.
