Multiple ransomware attacks have recently targeted organizations across several countries. In Spain, the Devman group breached the Ayuntamiento de Níjar, encrypting data and allegedly exfiltrating 120GB, with the ransom demand still undisclosed. Another Spanish entity, Laboratorios Belloch, was compromised by the Akira group, which exfiltrated 25GB of data including project files, financial information, and client data. In Italy, the Kill Security group claimed breaches of Novaria and SAMA s.r.l., releasing samples of the stolen data. Brazil’s Grupo Carrera was attacked by the Rhysida ransomware group, which is demanding 10 bitcoins (approximately $1.1 million) with a ransom deadline of June 2, 2025. South Africa’s Mediclinic Group was targeted by the Everest hacking group, which exfiltrated personal data of 1,000 employees and 4GB of other confidential information. Japan’s Media Links was also breached by the Play ransomware group, setting a ransom deadline of May 30, 2025. Additionally, MathWorks, the developer of MATLAB used by over five million users globally, confirmed a ransomware attack that has disrupted its licensing center and flagship product. The company is still working on remediation, with some users reportedly resorting to pirated software to maintain access during the outage.
