A Condor Airlines Boeing 757-300 carrying 273 passengers and eight crew members made an emergency landing at Brindisi Airport in southern Italy on 16 August after flames erupted from its right engine shortly after take-off from Corfu, Greece, en route to Düsseldorf, Germany. Flight DE3665, operating under registration D-ABOK, had climbed to cruise altitude when passengers and bystanders recorded video of sparks and loud bangs coming from the engine. The jet landed safely at 20:15 local time, roughly 40 minutes after departure, and no injuries were reported. Condor said cockpit instruments showed a parameter outside the normal range, prompting the crew to shut down the affected engine and divert. The carrier attributed the event to a disturbance in air-flow within the combustion chamber and noted that preliminary reports also point to a possible bird strike. Italian aviation authorities have opened an investigation, and the aircraft remains under technical inspection. Passengers were accommodated overnight in Brindisi before a replacement aircraft completed the journey to Düsseldorf. The incident adds to a series of recent inflight engine failures involving older Boeing models, intensifying scrutiny of maintenance and safety practices across the global fleet.
